Qualification & Professional Experience
Mr. George Stephanos holds B.E (Mech) and M. Tech (Industrial Engg.) degrees from India, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Production Management from West Germany.
He has over 35 years experience with Indian Aluminium Company, Limited, at manufacturing locations in Kerala and Karnataka, and at the Corporate Headquarters in Calcutta. He held the positions of Maintenance Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Manager-Personnel, and Smelter Manager before taking charge as General Works Manager of the Alumina & Smelter Complex at Belgaum.
He transferred to INDAL’s Corporate office and Chief Staff Manager. During this assignment, he successfully reoriented and revitalised the Staff Management & Development System. He was trained in Canada in the internationally renowned HAY method of Job Evaluation and acquired expertise in Compensation System.
As Chief Executive – HRD & Quality Systems, he initiated, guided and spearheaded INDAL’s Quality Movement integrating it with Training & Development, which has resulted in ten ISO 9001 / 2 certifications and outstanding progress in TQM.
As Vice President & Chief Planning Officer, he revamped the Corporate Planning System and guided the Strategic Planning Activity through proper structuring of the planning process.
He was a Member-Secretary of INDAL’s Management Committee, and the Corporate Group. He is a senior assessor for self-assessment to EFQM Module of Business Excellence.
In training / consultancy work, his clientele includes Murugappa Group, BILT, INDAL, BOC India, and Paharpur Cooling Towers.
Academic And Other Professional Activities
Mr. Stephanos was Co-Chairman of the Board of Examination of the Indian Institute of Industrial Engineering. Visiting Faculty at the School of Management Studies, University of Cochin, and at the Karnataka University. He was a member of the faculty of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore for Management Development Programmes. He also served as Hon. Secretary of Kerala State Productivity Council.
Mr. Stephanos has several publications to his credit. He has presented papers at the National Conferences of Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering, and National Institute of Personnel Management.
