 ISO TS 16949 & QS 9000
Introduction
QS9000 is an industry specific standard developed by Ford, General Motors and Chrysler with participation of
member companies of TAG. A similar standard has been developed by ISO called ISO/TS 16949. Both these
Standards are intended to define the fundamental quality system expected by the auto OEM is from their internal
and external suppliers of production materials, production and service parts, finishing services like heat treatment,
painting, plating etc. and tools & equipments.
Purpose
Development ,implementation and or up gradation of existing QMS complying with the requirements of QS 9000 or
ISO/TS 16949.
Objective
To implement the QS 9000 ,ISO/TS 16949 standards, specific to the automotive sector with a view to consistently
provide products defect free and to achieve reduction in variation, waste in supply chain, holding the ultimate purpose
being continuous improvement.
Process
By providing specialized services in terms of diagnostics, training, consultancy, facilitation and counseling to identify the
process requirements, operation and control measures to continually improve the system.
Services Offered
Awareness Training and Implementation :
Those organizations willing to upgrade their existing system to any of the two standards or wanting to go to TS from QS can take this
training which provides the clause by clause interpretation of additions and specific requirements there such that the organization is in
apposition to appreciate the additional documentation and need for additional training on specific tools for its implementation. This training
is designed in a way to facilitate the organization to choose the appropriate standard based on their need and their customer
preferences. This training is available in a one day or two day module.
Purpose & Outcome
To Provide a comprehensive approach in implementing Best-in-Class systems and the process of certification to ISO/TS 16949.
- To familiarize participants with the intent of the standard.
- To explain the additions to ISO 9001:2008 in ISO/ TS 16949
- To show the impact of this new standard.
By the end of the course the participants would be able to appreciate the need, understand the requirements and advantages.
Internal Auditor :
Two day intensive training on the concepts of auditing combined with automotive industry case study provides valuable inputs to
understand the specific auditing skills required to audit the QS/TS tools. The auditors trained are able to provide the inputs to the
management regarding the effectiveness of implementation of the standard and identify the areas requiring attention for
improvement. This training is expected to be registered with IRCA ( only for TS) shortly .
Purpose & Outcome
To ensure that the efficiency and effectiveness of the Quality Management System is in conformance with ISO/TS 16949 standards so as to provide confidence to the customer, the management and the third party certification body.
The objective of the training is to:
- To recap the understanding of the requirements of the standard.
- To provide in-depth knowledge on the requirements of Internal Audit.
- To provide first hand experience of Auditing techniques and the role of Auditors.
- By the end of the training, the delegates would be able to
- Plan an audit
- Identify nonconformities
- Report nonconformities
- Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions

APQP/PPAP Training :
Purpose & Outcome
QS 9000 focuses on upfront planning to ensure that customer requirements are met. The methodology of planning is defined in APQP & control plan reference manual. The customer confidence of quality planning is achieved by demonstrating the process as defined in Production Part Approval Process PPAP. APQP aims at defect free product in a short cycle-time and avoid frequent changes in product design and/ or production process. The PPAP is aimed at ensuring consistency of product quality in regular lots as demonstrated at sample/ prelaunch stage.
To enable the delegates to understand
- QS 9000 overviews
- What, why & how of
- Advanced Product Quality
- Planning Cross Functional Teams
- Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
- Overview of FMEA
- Preparation of Control Plan
QS9000, ISO/TS 16949 ASSOCIATED TECHNIQUES
- Advanced Product Quality Planning and Control Plan
- Production Part Approval Process
- Stastical Process Control
- Measurement System Analysis
- Failure Mode and Effect Analysis
- 8D Team Oriented Problem Solving
- Design for Manufacturability and Assembly
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- Quality Function Deployment
- Design Reviews
- Tools for Continuous Improvement
FMEA Training
Purpose & Outcome
To comprehend potential errors in development and manufacturing / assembly of product or in new manufacturing process and to prevent this through suitable measures.
By the end of the course, delegates would be able to know how to:
- Prepare a directory of possible/ potential failure modes.
- Priorities the failure modes with respect to the potential risk(s) encountered (inclusive of severity of effect, possibility of occurrence & ability of current system to detect).
- Prepare an action plan to counter the cause of high priority (high risk) failure modes to prevent their occurrence.
MSA Training
Purpose & Outcome
To generate an understanding of concept of variation in general and variation with respect to measurement process and calculation of R & R for measurement process.
By the end of the course, delegates would be able to
- Understand variation
- Definitions related to measurement system.
- Calculation of R & R
- Interpretation and use of R & R information
SPC Trainng
Purpose & Outcome
To provide confidence to the customers and obtain competitive advantage by continuous improvement of process/product quality through application of statistical techniques.
By the end of the course, delegates would be able to :
- Understand the importance of application statistical techniques
- Apply these techniques in process(es)
- Understand / interpret control charts (Variable and Attribute type) for ensuring improvement
- Evaluate machine/ process capabilities
- Understand techniques of root cause analysis (Check sheet, Pareto and Cause & effect diagrams)
