Hi Friends, It is heartening to note India is getting greater respect amongst the International community as the economic rate of growth is improving steadily. It was reported in the National press that the Auto components industry might overtake the IT industry in terms of value of goods exported in the next 5 years.  This from a sector that only 5 years ago was struggling to survive in the context of the international competition arriving in India. It is to the credit of the people managing and working in this sector for the remarkable recovery through focus on customer and quality management. Many of these organisations have won international recognition through award of Deming Prize and TPM Excellence. Those were the means to an end. The true recognition has come from the customers not only in India but also from the developing countries that have given their vote of confidence by buying their products on a long-term basis. Obviously this is just the beginning and it is recognized that we need to redouble our efforts in retaining this confidence by outperforming the competition from all quarters. It is heartening to note the other sectors of economy are also increasingly focusing on improvement of quality & productivity while reducing cycle and cost in a structured manner using approaches like TQM / TPM / TPS / Six Sigma etc. Such success has encouraged others to take similar initiatives and it is a good sign for the Indian and Asian economy. Consumption of refrigerant gas was found to be 26% more than the norms specified in the Bill of Materials. Therefore opportunity for cost saving exists if consumption can be brought inline to the BOM norms. Project was completed in four months by a six member cross-functional team. Over-consumption beyond BOM reduced to 6%. This translates to a saving of Rs 2.5 Million on annualized basis.
