What Are The Different Roles Involved In A Six Sigma Project?

There are various levels of professionals working together collaboratively to succeed in a Six Sigma project. They all have their own specific roles and functions to perform, which are as under. After reading the blog below, you will understand the importance of achieving a qualified Six Sigma Certification in India.

Quality Council

The Quality Council or Six Sigma Leadership Team is a leadership group that comprises of top management who establishes the roles and responsibilities, and lays the infrastructure of the Six Sigma initiative. The top management is also involved with selecting the various projects and allocating resources. They also assess the progress and the impact of Six Sigma efforts on the organization; and identify the strengths and weaknesses of the efforts put in. This top management comprises only of Master Black Belts who are the experts of the processes and the company.

Sponsor

The Sponsor is a senior manager who supervises the project and its improvement. He maintains the broad goals of the improvement process, and ensures that the business priorities are taken care of. He is also responsible for approving any kind of changes, and training the team to work in the direction of the project plan. He applies all the principles of Six Sigma into his management tasks, and works with the process owners to ensure an agreement at the conclusion of the improvement project. The Sponsor is a Master Black Belt who serves as a representative of the leadership team.

Implementation Leader

The implementation leader is the one in-charge for day-to-day implementation of tasks. He is the one who communicates at all levels of the organization and supports the leadership group by reviewing projects. He is accountable for preparing the curriculum and making training plans. He also helps individuals to fulfill their roles and assists the sponsor to achieve his goal. Finally, he is also responsible for documenting the overall progress and the issues that need attention. The implementation leader is a Master Black Belt.

Six Sigma Coach

As the name suggests, this individual is a coach and consultant who provides expert advice to the process owners and implementation team. He collects and validates all the essential data of team activities. He then analyzes this data, and helps the team to achieve success by guiding them wherever they need special support. He stays constantly in touch with the leadership group and the project sponsor, and communicates with them about various aspects and progress made. As a Six Sigma Coach, it is important that the individual is a Master Black Belt.

Team Leader

The team leader is very critical to every project as he is the one responsible for getting the work done. He ensures that the project is on track, and will continue to stay on the desired path up till the end. He selects the project team members who are supposed to carry out the task so as to successfully complete the project. Because he is a Black or Green Belt with immense Six Sigma knowledge, he helps the team in using the proper Six Sigma tools.

Team members

Finally, at the end of the entire hierarchy, stand the team members who are the ones applying the efforts for improvement. They are Green Belts who measure, analyze, and execute the improvement process.
